Maysar Khamaisi

Maysar is a married mother of three daughters who lives in Kafr Kana. She has been a weaving instructor at Sindyanna’s Visitors Center since she graduated with honors from the first cycle of  the basket weaving course. As part of her role, she hosts groups of visitors, teaching them how to weave baskets and other traditional handicrafts.

Although this is not a full-time job, the role has already led to a revolution in her life. “Until two years ago, I was sitting at home and felt like I was wasting my abilities. When I saw an ad in the village for a palm frond weaving course, I joined immediately. I still didn’t know that I had a talent for weaving, and that this talent would lead to a job offer from Sindyanna. When it happened, I jumped at the opportunity without thinking twice.”

“Getting out of the house, enjoying the feeling of creating something with my hands, meeting other women from the village and the surrounding area, and with Israeli tourists and visitors – all of this gave me a lot of positive energy. I have created a special connection with Israeli women, who appreciate the baskets we make by hand, and are willing to pay for them, even though there are cheaper ones on the market.”
